Safety Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Safety Associate/Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to promote and maintain The Phoenix Group’s Safety Management Plan. They will work in a support capacity to the Safety Supervisor to ensure proper safety paperwork is completed and on file, task deadlines are met and support the safety supervisor on various safety projects. The person will have a high degree of influence on driving positive outcomes and ensuring team members are conducting work activities in a safe manner.

  • 1st shift hourly position, Mon-Fri; eligible for overtime.
    • Some weekend or evening hours will be required for projects, investigations, or other activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain, audit, and revise all safety documents, procedure books, forms, etc. and know at any time the status of the location, revision date, and review date of any document.
  • Assist in the establishment and maintenance of a safety-first attitude within the organization.
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets and annually audit for current dates/revisions.
  • Develops and distributes daily, weekly, and monthly safety meeting topics based on the Safety & Health Plan, Safety Alerts, customer feedback, and any other safety or health information.
  • Monitor safety observation records to ensure adherence to requirements and report to leadership.
  • File and maintain safety records per their required retention and storage requirements.
  • Utilize computer software to control department documents.
  • Based on management’s input, create, update, and write various reports and safety procedures.
  • Explain and demonstrate safety system requirements to stakeholders.
  • Participate in incident investigations (i.e. communicate, respond, contain, gather evidence, generate a report, etc.).
  • Prepare for and participate in various safety audits. Be prepared to answer questions and provide evidence during an audit.
  • Participate in various safety meetings.
  • Order and track safety supplies/PPE as necessary.
  • Contact employees selected for a D&A random test (communicate with testing facility and Phoenix leadership).
  • Assist with Safety Orientation training for new employees.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • 1+ year experience working in a dedicated safety role, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
  • A higher education degree is a plus (associates etc), not required. 
  • OSHA10 / OSHA30 certification is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work in an environment where you’re exposed to both extreme heat and cold conditions in both an indoor and outdoor environment.
  • Ability to lift 10-20lbs on a regular basis, up to 50lbs on occasion.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Must possess an acute attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
