Quality Lab Technician

Position Overview:

The Phoenix Group is a leader in operations outsourcing and quality consulting in the durable goods manufacturing industry. We currently have a customer in Novi Michigan in need of support in their aluminum quality lab that supports their customers in material analysis and reporting of their aluminum automotive products.

The lab technician consultant is a key 3rd party member of the customer’s support team, providing laboratory support to their customer account teams and field technical services representatives.

Position Accountabilities: 

• Possesses an understanding of lab equipment and material handling.
• As a two-way information conduit to internal teams, will perform laboratory testing of moderate to high complexity, document results, and provide data and preliminary analysis that is accurate and valid.
• Support laboratory operations and coordinate material handling in the lab in support of business needs.
• Contributes to specification and planning of the laboratory.
• Provide metallurgical laboratory services to key customers.
• Independently handle day-to-day metallurgical evaluation testing in the laboratory and address moderately complex problems.
• Coordinate testing with Lab Technologists.
• Supply relevant and accurate testing data to internal customers by deadlines.
• Clearly communicate technical information and/or results effectively to colleagues customers.
• Maintains and diagnoses critical equipment, including calibration and maintenance schedule in support of lab staff.
• Leverage internal R&D and plant labs to establish laboratory best practices.
• Own Lab Safety and Quality.
• Utilizes equipment in a safe operating manner and in compliance with Novelis safety standards.
• Identify key lab safety points and complete risk assessments as needed
• Train new lab personnel and engineers in the lab as necessary
• Document and enforce laboratory safety rules.
• Use of fork truck, pallet jacks, and other lifts regularly.
